With a new year usually comes a new taste for adventure. For many, these
new adventures include taking a well-deserved break and going to another place
or country to explore, lounge, challenge themselves, or simply getting away in
any shape or form they like. With January and its devious temptation of cheap
flights and accommodation deals to escape those post-Christmas blues, many
people flock to plan their annual trip to make sure that they are not left
disappointed or out of pocket. Yet, how does anyone decide on where to go? Here
are some (more) suggestions that may just help you decide.
If it is exploring you are after, why not try South America’s Machu Picchu trek. Located in
Peru, this incredible ancient Inca site, also known as the ‘Lost City of the
Incas’, sits high up in the mountains in the Sacred Valley, fifty miles
northwest of Cusco, and is now a Peruvian historical sanctuary. To climb this
incredible site believed to be built for Emperor Inca Pachacuti, is no mean
feat: the trek is perfectly safe and easily manageable for those of moderate
fitness, but as the climb is predominantly a steep staircase, it is still
rather testing for most. The views throughout are simply mesmerising, and include
ancient ruins, parts of the Amazon rainforest, and stunning mountainous
landscapes.
There are also chances to visit the Moon
Temple on your return journey. This detour to include the great cave is
seen to be slightly more daunting as it includes a great descent to an altitude
much lower than that of Huayna Picchu which features ladders that some may not
be comfortable climbing. Due to this descent, there is also a further climb to
return back onto the Huayna Picchu path again.
The Temple of the Moon itself,
however, is a ceremonial cave excellently carved out of stone which has been
believed to have previously held royal tombs and house mummies, but also
considered to be a place of worship and possibly even sacrifice.
If the thought of going on the above holiday has caused you to consider
booking another one just to recover, then another fantastic getaway option is
to rent a villa. This can often be an overlooked idea when people research
their big breaks, but they are especially good if you are travelling with a
large group of friends or family. By offering you a (very pleasant) base camp,
they allow people to go off and entertain themselves, yet still keep you
together as a group. Mediterranean locations such as Cyprus and Turkey provide
some of the best backdrops for these relaxed but fun-filled holidays by having
something for everyone. Water sports are available at many beaches while Cyprus villas with pools offer an
excellent distraction for the kids, or simply a place to cool down for the
group. The incredible weather satisfies sun-worshippers and sea lovers, while
the cultures themselves offer excellent foods and histories for everyone to
explore.
For many people however, luxury holidays may be hard to come by with
holiday allowance restrictions, or family and pet responsibilities, or both in
many cases. There is still a chance to get away. Short breaks are becoming more
and more popular as trips abroad are now being made so easy and attractive.
Many European cities such as Paris, Barcelona, Berlin and Rome are great for
offering you a distraction over a long weekend, and to leave you feeling
rejuvenated upon your return. These hubbubs of culture encourage enthusiastic
exploration of museums, statues, parks and histories; yet at the same time they
offer you a splendid array of wonderful cuisines that you could just as easily
spend your time exploring whilst sitting in various restaurants and cafes!
With various discounted websites offering extraordinary deals on weekend
and short-break getaways it is almost impossible to resist the temptation of
taking a break. Holidays can cost under £100 if bought at the right time, and,
especially if in the EU, are no hassle at all to get to. Websites such as Trip Advisor are great places to get
inspiration on where to go if you are lacking inspiration, or Wikitravel is great to research
the places you are interested in.
